Going green has never been this tasty

Review 7th October 2019

Step inside this deli and kitchen in the heart of South Kensington, and you’ll immediately pick up on all the ‘friendly local’ feels. In fact, if you close your eyes while sipping on one of their expertly made coffees, you can almost imagine the cast of Friends lounging about on the couch next to you. Greenspeares is a light and airy space with warm service, fresh food and fast Wifi. Perfect, as it were, to pull in for a quick coffee and a light bite, a few hours of work, or a lazy catch-up with mates.

The menu is full of fresh salads, superfood bowls, poached eggs and smashed avo on toast. Their brownies, tarts and cakes are vegan, sugar free or gluten-free – free from nasties but certainly not of flavour. Greenspeares uses seasonal ingredients that are sourced sustainably from British farms – and you can taste the difference – everything is fresh and flavourful. Even though you will spot a few meaty options on the menu, the majority of their offering is plant-based and dairy-free. Don’t miss the absolute highlight of the menu, the Turkish eggs – perfectly poached eggs in a garlic yogurt & chilli oil, with chunks of toasted sourdough and a zingy red onion salad.

The café’s interior is understated yet peppered with homely elements – fun wallpaper, a downstairs ‘lounge’ area complete with couches to comfortably while away the hours, and a water table where you can fill up on tap water to your heart’s content (so welcome when you are spending quite some time there and not too keen to keep plaguing).

Next time you’re in the South Ken area and don’t feel like hanging around the Harrods crowd, this is the place.
