Koya specialises in udon noodles, rice and rice porridge dishes. They have fresh vegetables delivered daily and turn them into masterful dishes such as the Kedegree porridge with smoked haddock, poached egg and curry. Other customer favourites include the poached egg in chilli dashi and Koya’s take on a full English (with fried egg, bacon and shiitake). The Asian influence is also noticeable in their drinks menu, with hot and cold Japanese tea, homemade lemonade and hot ginger.
The unassuming dark shopfront in Soho is noticeable by the signature neon sign of a red house outside. The interior combines a modern look of minimalistic architecture with the rustic touch of wood panelled walls and tables, giving the space a welcoming yet elegant feel. The centrepiece of the room is a dark green tiled bar behind which guests can see the skilled chefs at work in the open kitchen.
